Mobius Strips

9 members of Herts Basketry met at Sandridge Village Hall on Saturday 16th March. Kim  brought along a small collection of her mobius strip pieces made from soft threads with a core of copper wire and hemp. We  had a detailed demonstration of how to start the constructions , plus how to create the all important twist needed for the mobius form. The double core of copper wire is for strength and flexibility and hemp string to help the wrapping material grip. It is an absorbing and satisfying technique requiring concentration. Colour combinations were up to us, and it was fascinating to gradually see the effects of these.

After a good start several of us found we’d done a double twist, and some undoing was necessary. Thanks to Kim, who sorted us out and got us onto the right track with only a single twist  we all produced something. Although none were quite finished  we went home with enough wire and string to complete our strips in our own time.

Many thanks to Kim for passing on her creative skills to us, and being such an attentive teacher.
