Willow Sculpture Workshop 10/11 June 2023

Under the calm guidance of Sue Kirk, people were either weaving round metal frames or making free-form sculptural pieces. Sue explained how to make simple hoops which were the basis of all the structures.

A framework of smaller weavers, was added giving solidity before adding the final layer which would create the dynamism of the animal. The  free-form sculptures employed a similar technique adding the final layer of willow in a flowing rhythmical way round their created hollow structures. This is a technique which demands concentration and patience because the success does not always show until the later stages.
