As part of the Basketmakers Associations 50th Anniversary, it was suggested 50 baskets would be woven by groups and displayed at the Summer Event. Each participating group was sent a basic frame basket to assemble and weave as they wished.
We started ours at the informal in April and finished it at the Herts County Show with over a dozen members contributing.
As well as all the baskets being at the BA Summer Event, we learnt from Geraldine that at the Annual Basketmakers Livery Company Trade Dinner in London four baskets from the ‘Big Weave’ project were on display. People, about 150 at the dinner, loved them. The Duchess of Gloucester gave them a look over as well. Our basket was one of the four from the original fifty chosen as a representative admired for its colourful ingenuity.
Accolades for Everyone involved! The photos show the initial creative meeting, the finished basket with all elements included, the four on display in London and being admired by Royalty!
